Managing JSON workloads at scale without heavy lifting

The advantages of Amazon DocumentDB

Managing-JSON

How do you manage JSON workloads at scale, and how well is that working for you? As the volume and variety of your data balloons, the answer to the second question is often, “not well”. You need scalability, durability, and performance from your flat-file database. But if you’re managing it yourself, either in the data centre or the cloud, that’s a load of patching, upgrading, and maybe licensing headaches too.

On the other hand, Amazon DocumentDB was engineered with scalable workloads in mind, and allows compute and storage to scale independently. DocumentDB was designed for durability with 99.99% availability, as it replicates your data across three AWS Availability Zones. It also is fully managed, uses MongoDB semantics, and provides a free migration service for six months. So, is it a better long-term option?

On our regcast Barry Morris from AWS will be talking to The Reg’s Tim Phillips about:

  • Why it may be time to migrate away from self-managed document databases
  • The benefits of DocumentDB, and who’s using it already
  • How to plan an efficient migration
