The iconic El Monumental stadium was built in 1938 and is home to a world-renowned Argentinian sports club, River Plate. It is also tied to some of the most important milestones in Argentinian football history - it was the venue for Argentina’s FIFA World Cup victory in 1978, for example. 1978 was also the last time the stadium was remodelled, so it was in definite need of a facelift. Therefore, as the Covid pandemic led El Monumental’s doors to be closed for most of last year, the stadium’s management chose to use this time to commence reconstruction and renew the facilities.

There were a number of factors that needed to be considered. El Monumental is more than just a football stadium, it has running tracks, a lawn, range of convenience stores, a museum, a micro stadium, a central hall, a paddock and a parking lot that is bigger than most stadiums. In addition to supporting thousands of spectators with superb connectivity, there was a need to actively and intelligently manage different elements of this vast infrastructure.

How CloudCampus 2.0 will elevate the fan experience

Football is dear to the heart of every Argentinian. The fans who throng to stadiums don't only require better sports-watching experiences, they increasingly want to share historic sports moments and their feelings with families and friends in real-time through social media. It’s fitting that, in a country where national hero Diego Maradona forever changed the way the game is played, Huawei was committed that its solution, CloudCampus 2.0, should change how the game is watched and celebrated by fans.

Staying true to its vision of bringing the five key tech domains together - connectivity, cloud, artificial intelligence (AI), computing and industry applications - Huawei rolled out its future-proof CloudCampus 2.0 solution to create new value propositions for the stadium and inject new life into the historic facility.

Bringing convenience to fans

The bedrock of the CloudCampus 2.0 solution is the intelligent connectivity made possible by Huawei's AirEngine Wi-Fi 6. It is capable of delivering Wi-Fi signals to every corner of the stadium, including the sports grandstands, convenience stores and parking lot. Capitalising on the stadium’s cutting-edge fully wireless network, The River Plate football club will be able to push promotional information to over 70,000 fans in real-time and stimulate them to place orders on their mobile phones.

The ubiquitous gigabit speeds create a super capacity network where everything in the stadium is connected - from mobile phones to IoT devices. For example, when fans visit the stadium, the IoT-powered smart parking system will be able to alert those in self-driving cars of available parking spaces.

Assuring an anytime, anywhere intelligent experience

By intelligently detecting application types, Huawei’s CloudCampus 2.0 can dynamically adjust resources and reserve them for key users and applications to ensure uncompromised experiences, even when unexpected congestion occurs. As fans and stadium staff place increasingly higher demands on the network, Huawei's CloudCampus 2.0 will help to plan, deploy, operate, and maintain network infrastructure, ensuring users no longer face network access issues.

CloudCampus 2.0 will improve new installation, operations and maintenance (O&M)

Built on the autonomous driving network (ADN) architecture, Huawei's iMaster NCE helps to automatically deploy new buildings and facilities regardless of their size and location, creating a plug and play network and greatly shortening the time to provision digital services. iMaster NCE is an AI-based campus network analyser, which collects network data in real-time, as well as learning network behaviour and identifying potential faults based on big data analytics and machine learning algorithms. It can proactively discover 85 per cent of potential network issues, and so minimises network O&M workload, as well as slashing ICT device maintenance costs and enabling simple and intuitive management for stable and large-scale connection over numerous networks.

The intelligent campus network architecture of CloudCampus 2.0 is the future of digital networks. It helps to break connectivity boundaries and build connections not only between people but also mobiles and IoT endpoints. Its service ‘cloudification’ feature breaks local/siloed boundaries to deliver consistent user experiences and policies, while a shift from manual O&M to intelligent O&M breaks management boundaries to enable network-wide intelligent operations.
