This IDC White Paper, sponsored by IBM, describes how and why enterprises deploy Linux applications on the IBM System z mainframe. Using the Integrated Facility for Linux (IFL) specialty engines and the z/VM virtualization platform for System z, customers are consolidating Linux applications into a mission critical environment that offers the manageability of System z, while providing the scalability, reliability, availability, and security required by such applications to ensure business continuity for such enterprise workloads.
