The handset – blurred images of which were first leaked last week – is called the Mini 3i. The device was demoed, according to reports, running Goole’s Android OS. It has been rumoured for several months that Dell is working on an Android-based smartphone.

While the Mini 3i is based around a 3.5in, 360 x 640 touchscreen, the phone is a rather poor show on the networking side of things because it can’t handle Wi-Fi or 3G connections - confirmed at the launch. Bluetooth support is integrated into the phone, however.

The phone features a 3Mp camera in its rear and data can be saved onto Micro SD memory cards.

Dell’s Mini 3i was demoed alongside smartphones from several other manufacturers – including HTC – at the launch of China Mobile’s online content platform for mobile phones, which provides local subscribers with access to music, games and entertainment.

A UK launch hasn't been mentioned

It isn’t yet known when the Mini 3i will be available to buy in China, or if Blighty will ever be graced by the PC manufacturer’s handset. ®
