3 is the magic number for HPE execs hopping over to AWS recently

3PAR boss Ivan Ianaccone is the latest to jump ship

The boss of HPE's 3PAR has quit for a cloudier future as head of storage at Amazon Web Services.

Ivan Iannaccone joined 3PAR in 2009 to troubleshoot escalating issues and remained on board after it was bought by HPE, ultimately running product management until he exited for the same position at Pure Storage.

He stayed for only 15 months before heading back to rejoin HPE in February last year, the same month Antonio Neri took over as CEO.

At AWS, Iannaccone will be responsible for the designing, building, deploying and maintenance of its storage infrastructure. He said AWS was looking to hire people for storage hardware, firmware, engineering, product management and a whole lot more.

Iannaccone is not the only HPE exec to take a hike in recent years. Andy Isherwood, former chief of HPE EMEA left in 2017 following a global restructure and rocked up as AWS managing director of EMEA in February 2018. Isherwood has spent around three decades at HPE.

In addition, Dave Chalmers has been HPE's chief technologist and veep for worldwide technology and pre-sales till January 2018, having been at the US firm for slightly less than nine years. He became an EMEA VP for systems engineering at VMware in February last year, but left to be solution architecture director at AWS in July last year.

AWS rival Google has also been busy filling its senior ranks with old world technologists, with ex-Oracle cloud exec Thomas Kurian replacing Diane Greene in January and another former Big Red veteran, Amit Zavery, joining him. ®
