Digital politics, fake news, housebound Koreans... it’s a Reg Lecture

Join us for our final ideas bash of the year

Whether you’re concerned about the effect of fake news and political ads on social media or the growing influence of e-sports on today's youth, you should come and join us next Tuesday for the last Register Lecture of 2017.

We’ve got Carl Miller joining us to talk about his efforts to expose the new forms of power that shape, guide and limit each of our lives, on and offline.

Carl is the co-founder of the Centre for the Analysis of Social Media and a visiting fellow at King's College London, and has researched all this for his upcoming book Power which examines control and liberation in the digital age.

He's examined the disinformation and fake news pumped out by Russia and the amateur online journalists trying to confront it. He's met the political Parties obsessed with digital campaigning and the people building technology to get rid of Parties altogether. His journey has also encompassed e-sports, and South Korea's hikikomori (look 'em up, we dare you), and much more.

As regular Reg lecture goers know, this all takes place at the Yorkshire Grey on Theobalds Road, London on November 7. The doors will be open from 6.30pm, with the talk proper kicking off at 7pm. And yes, there'll be refreshments, both liquid and solid, on hand.

After about 40 minutes of formal chat, we’ll break for a drink and a bite, before opening the floor to around 45 minutes of questions, giving you the opportunity to discuss power - whether you have it, want it, or are just scared of it.

We hope you'll join us for what will be an illuminating and stimulating evening.
