Double-dating VMware lover Tintri brings Hyper-V closer to its bed

Tintri looking for sales ignition from Hyper-V support

Hybrid and all-flash array vendor Tintri is expanding Hyper-V support, extending its existing VMware virtual machine-aware facilities.

Tintri pioneered VVOL-class storage admin for its arrays, meaning VMware admins could provision, operate and manage its hybrid flash/disk array storage, a long time before VMware delivered VVOLs.

It has added all-flash arrays to its line-up and is now advancing into the Hyper-V virtualised server storage space.

Its array tech is certified for the latest Microsoft Windows 2012 R2 environments and for Microsoft applications. Tintri will support Windows 2016 when it is released later this year, as an OS for virtual machines and Hyper-V 2016. The company's support for virtualised Microsoft apps includes Always On Availability Groups (AAG) with SQL Server 2012 and higher.

Tintri is developing a VMware to Hyper-V conversion toolkit so VMs can move between vSphere and Hyper-V.

The company has added support for:

  • Hyper-V offloaded data transfer (ODX) support to allow Hyper-V storage live migrations to be offloaded from the VM host to Tintri storage devices
  • SCVMM Add-in so cloud admins can manage Tintri storage directly from the System Center Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM) console, view Tintri predictive analytics to optimise capacity and performance, and perform Tintri storage specific actions from within SCVMM
  • SCOM Management Pack to access Tintri metrics and alerts through the System Center Operations Manager (SCOM) platform, create filters for collected data and trigger custom actions

Tintri says it has gained Microsoft Gold-level data centre competency, which fellow hybrid array startups have not.

If you are a Hyper-V shop or a mixed VMware/Hyper-V shop, then Tintri storage could provide a common shared array facility that helps to offload storage tasks to the array and get your VMs running faster.

It is exhibiting in booth #1726 at the Microsoft Ignite 2016 Conference, Sept. 26-30 in Atlanta. ®
