TalkTalk says 8-month app outage lasting 'bit longer than we hoped'

Leave? You'll miss out on 100% unavailability of Talk2Go...

TalkTalk's Talk2Go app has been offline for eight months - since that breach, in fact - but that hasn't stopped the business reminding those trying to leave that they'd be missing out on it if they went elsewhere.

Talk2Go is a free app allowing customers to "make calls to friends and family using your landline minutes on your mobile while you're abroad", or at least it would be if it was working.

An about page on TalkTalk's website explains all of the benefits of the Talk2Go app, but mentions of its unavailability are limited on the site, which says "We're aware that some of you are having trouble accessing the Talk2Go app."

However, a Reg reader has been in touch to complain that the app, which is advertised as part of the customer package, has not been available for anyone since October, as TalkTalk confirmed to us.

"Constant excuses are being made on its forum," the Reg reader was told, "and any thread that mentions the app gets ‘locked’ almost instantly!"

Additionally, those who attempt to leave the company will receive an email or a letter reminding them that "when you leave us you'll no longer get" access to the Talk2Go app – a fairly hollow warning to users who aren't getting access to it anyway.

TalkTalk thanked The Register when we contacted them "for flagging this with us" and a spokesperson said: "We will inform our teams of the customer information below and will investigate internally to ensure they are taken down."

The TalkTalk spokesperson told us it has "been updating all the security on every part of our website and all our apps," following the breach, but "it’s taking us a bit longer than we’d hoped to get Talk2Go back online".

While not offering any estimated time for Talk2Go's return, the spokesperson told us that the company was "working as hard as we can, and we’ll get it back up and running as soon as possible". ®
