Database admin banned from Oxford Street for upskirt filming

Cops found eight minutes of voyeuristic footage

A database admin has been banned from Oxford Street for filming up the skirts of young women.

Miroslav Mirchev, 33, used the not particularly subtle tactic of swinging a bag containing a smartphone to capture his voyeuristic footage, The Evening Standard reported from Westminster magistrates court.

Mirchev is from Varna in Bulgaria, though he gave his address as a hotel in Banbury. He is said to travel to the UK to install Oracle databases at hotels and restaurants.

He was rumbled and reported to a security guard while toting a suspiciously placed bag around womenswear outlet Topshop, no doubt looking somewhat out of place.

Police found more than eight minutes of “upskirt” footage on his phone.

Prosecutor Zahid Hussain said: “He had his iPhone in the bag within close proximity to the floor and he was filming up the skirts of young females.”

Mirchev admitted outraging public decency and has been banned from going to Oxford Street prior to sentencing on June 16. He was allowed to keep a smartphone and computer devices for work.

However, some scopophiles have gone to more tragic lengths to gain their sad thrills.

A Melbourne man was accused in 2007 of using a tiny video camera embedded in the toe of his shoe to look up womens' skirts on buses, trains and trams – something he'd reportedly been doing for four years. ®
