Barclays.net Bank Holiday outage leaves firms unable to process payments

System now said to be 'recovering' says bank

Barclays.net has been shrugging off business customers' login attempts since Friday, leaving many unable to process payments over the bank holiday weekend.

Problems with the business banking service peaked on Friday, with customers complaining that they were unable to process payments ahead of the bank holiday weekend.

One Reg reader complained to us that his business was unable to pay staff or suppliers and customer service provided "no help", while a colleague who was buying a house on Friday was panicked as their solicitor was unable to pay the developer.

Fortunately the payment "eventually got through" but not before much wailing and gnashing of teeth had taken place.

This morning, Barclays issued a statement 'fessing up to the issue and apologised for it:

Service update: Login problems have been reported - being investigated

A small number of customers are experiencing difficulties logging in to the Barclays.Net service. This is currently being investigated and will be resolved as soon as possible.

Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused.

Communications with aggrieved customers over Twitter on Friday stated that the system was "recovering".

A Barclays spokesperson told The Register: “Earlier we experienced a technical issue affecting some payments during a routine update to our systems. Having taken action services are now returning to normal, and we would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused.” ®
