BDaaS ex-Facebook duo scoop $30m for big data biz

Yep, that's (B)ig-(D)ata-(a)s-(a)-(S)ervice

In Brief A pair of former Facebookers landed $30m in venture capital funding for their big data-as-a-service startup last week.

Qubole closed its Series C financing last week with a $30m cash injection, bringing its total funding to $50m.

The financing was lead by Institutional Venture Partners (IVP) who managed to wrangle a seat at Qubole's board table for its general partner, Somesh Dash.

Launched in 2012, Quoble's main product is the Quoble Data Service, a self-service platform for data analytics. IVP is a later-stage venture capital firm.

Qubole is based on the Hadoop tools its founders created whilst working as data engineers at Facebook.

This additional investment will enable us to expand our efforts in sales, marketing and product development while continuing to serve our current customers with excellence,” said Ashish Thusoo, CEO and co-founder of Qubole. ®
