This will get pulses racing, thinks EMC: Copy data management

EMC's XtremIO all-flash array has had a copy data management facility added as the storage goliath takes on Actifio, Catalogic, and Delphix.

Eazy-E has added iCDM (integrated Copy Data Management) to its XtremIO arrays that hold primary data and not secondary data. Typically, copy data is stored on secondary storage with Delphix and Actifio cloning virtualized copies of primary data for test and development, protection, etc. Catalogic catalogs file copies and provides the means to identify and manage redundant copies.

EMC says it makes sense to provide database copies on its XtremIO arrays, serving both production (primary) and non-production (secondary) data needs without prejudicing production workload service delivery agreements, and providing:

• Self-service
• On-demand responsiveness
• Consolidation of secondary workload on primary array
• Efficient use of capacity
• Fast provisioning and instant refresh
• In-line data services

It says that, as XtremIO is a scale-out array, it can cope with additional workloads as they develop.
