Chef kicks off London conference with buyout and product releases
Hoovers up nine month old German upstart
Chef served up a surprise acquisition and a flurry of enterprise friendly product releases at its UK summit today.
However, the automation developer also yanked a trio of recent builds of its Reporting product.
Chef said it had “recently acquired” a German security software outfit, Vulcanosec, which markets a Compliance Scanner and Security Automation Framework.
The firm is headed up by Dominik Richter, who, his LinkedIn profile suggests, founded it just nine months ago. Before his short-term startup, Richter was a cloud security engineering manager at Deutsche Telekom. He is also listed as founder and CTO at German webmeeting startup Sessionbird, which still appears to be in beta.
Vulcanosec’s technology has been repurposed in the form of Chef Compliance, which will be offered as part of the Chef Premium subscription service.
Chef also used the London conference to announce its Chef Delivery product was now generally available and integrated with Chef Compliance. The delivery product has been available under an invitation program since April, and will now be offered as part of the Chef Premium + Delivery subscription.
According to Chef, the combination of Compliance and Delivery will “automate infrastructure, runtime environments, applications and compliance policies”.
Meanwhile, Chef said it had pulled builds 1.5.4, 1.5.3, and 1.5.2 of Chef Reporting, “as they were found to be incompatible with Chef Server versions less than 12.2.”
The announcement came hard on the heels of the release of 1.5.4. Chef said it was “quickly working” on fixing the snafu and would announce a new completed build via its blog. ®
