Ex-SpaceX tech launches class action over unpaid overtime

A class action lawsuit has been filed against SpaceX by a former "structures technician" at the company, who alleges that between June 2013 and February 2015 he was not paid for the regular overtime hours he was asked to put in.

The action has been brought by Stan Saporito on behalf of Californians who worked at SpaceX and allegedly were not adequately compensated under Californian labour laws, reported VICE News spinoff Motherboard.

The filing alleges SpaceX "knowingly caused a violation of the California Labor Code by directing its employees to alter the time records, or 'shave' the time worked by [Stan Saporito] and other [Class action members] in order to avoid paying these employees for all their time worked, including overtime worked and missed meal breaks."

According to the plaintiff's allegations, these conditions were not historical and currently persist at SpaceX. The plaintiff is seeking both damages and overtime compensation, for both herself and the other class action members.

SpaceX has not yet made a counterfiling, though it has denied the claims made in the complaint to Motherboard, adding that it plans to refute them in court. ®
