Cash-hungry Google chief upgrades advertising veeps

Pinch me, Pichai! Android chaps promoted, too

Google's recently-uploaded chief Sundar Pichai has made his first big management changes to the ad giant since assuming the top dog role in August.

It comes just a week after Google morphed into its new holding company, Alphabet – headed up by the multinational's co-founders, Larry Page and Sergey Brin.

According to Re/code, Pichai has promoted a number of Google veeps into more senior roles within Google.

Ads man Phillip Schindler – who joined Google when it bought his outfit DoubleClick – has become SVP of global sales and operations, while the firm's vice president of display and vid ads, Neal Mohan, has had the letter "S" added to the front of his title, too.

Other notable promotions include Hiroshi Lockheimer to senior veep for Android, Chrome OS and Chromecast and Android VP Dave Burke has apparently been tasked with "more engineering leadership duties."

The managerial rejig also hints at the key, albeit unsurprising, things occupying Pichai: growth in Android and advertising sales. ®
