Parliament wants to splash £6m on network build 'n' run contract

Crumbling building needs firewall support

The Houses of Parliament is looking to splash up to £6m on a data network management and support services network.

The contract is worth between £3m-£6m over a six year period.

The managed services deal will cover maintenance, support, management and monitoring of the Houses of Parliament Network Security Services.

That includes firewalls, proxy servers, network load balancers, DMZ network, VPN and NAC in the Perimeter Network, for the Houses of Parliament.

Parliament said it was looking up to seven suppliers to tender for the deal.

However, it is unclear whether it will be worth designing the new system, given that MPs have been warned they may have to move out of the Palace of Westminster for five years. If they do not move out of the crumbling 19th century building, Parliament has been warned it may have to pay up to £7.1bn for restoration works over a 30-year period if it stays put.

Given the time it takes for the government to actually award tenders, the renovations may well be complete before a deal is done. ®
