Never mind the redundancies as Capita splashes cash on Barrachd

It means 'more' in Gaelic, apparently

Everyone's favourite outsourcer Capita has snapped up business intelligence outfit and IBM VAR Barrachd for an undisclosed pile of cash.

The 38-strong Scottish biz develops bespoke BI software in the financial services, energy, and higher education sectors.

Barrachd was founded in 2007 and its name means "more" in Gaelic – a word which arguably incorporates Capita's entire corporate strategy.

Over the last year, Capita has been gobbling up countless public sector deals and has made a series of acquisitions.

In the last month alone, it spent £25m on property developer GL Hearn, £35m on mortgage company Vertex, and an undisclosed sum on software business Isys Group.

Only recently, The Channel revealed that Capita is placing hundreds of workers at call centres across the UK that service O2 clients at risk of redundancy.

Andy Parker, Capita chief executive, said: “Our clients in both the private and public sectors are increasingly looking at how they can benefit from analytical technology, both to enhance their customer service but also to explore new markets and opportunities for growth."

He added: “We have made a significant investment in our digital expertise in recent years, and we have a proud record of helping organisations adapt and meet the challenges of the digital age. Our investment in Barrachd further outlines our commitment and aspirations to deliver even greater value to our clients and their customers.” ®
