Zuck leads tributes to Silicon Valley biz man David Goldberg

SurveyMonkey boss David Goldberg – the husband of Facebook's chief operating officer Sheryl Sandberg – died suddenly on Friday night.

Facebook chief Mark Zuckerberg said:

Dave Goldberg was an amazing person and I am glad I got to know him. My thoughts and prayers are with Sheryl and her family.

Robert Goldberg confirmed in a public Facebook post within the past hour that his brother had died:

It’s with incredible shock and sadness that I’m letting our friends and family know that my amazing brother, Dave Goldberg, beloved husband of Sheryl Sandberg, father of two wonderful children, and son of Paula Goldberg, passed away suddenly last night.

Robert urged friends and family to "post memories and pictures of Dave to his Facebook profile."

Goldberg, 47, joined SurveyMonkey in 2009. Prior to that he had been a well-known figure on the Silicon Valley tech scene.

He founded LAUNCH Media Inc in 1994, which was scooped up by Yahoo! seven years later. He stayed on at the Purple Palace serving as the company's music veep, before going solo in 2007 as an entrepreneur with Benchmark Capital.

Goldberg married Sandberg in 2004, eight years after they first met. ®
