Ads! People! love! ads! in! their! apps! Please! use! ours! cries! Yahoo!

And give us money, we like money

Yahoo! has released a set of tools allowing smartphone apps to use the web giant's Bing-powered search engine and serve up ads.

The Purple Palace said its Mobile Developer Suite can be used to display Yahoo!'s Gemini marketplace and BrightRoll video ads (no, me neither). The suite bundles the Yahoo! App Publishing and App Marketing tools to purchase the adverts and dish them out in apps.

The included Yahoo Search in Apps tool embeds web searches within applications. The suite also provides the Flurry Analytics SDK and Flurry Pulse tool to measure user activity. Yahoo! acquired Flurry last year for a reported $200m-plus.

Yahoo! claims the toolkit is part of an effort by the company to reinvent itself as a mobile specialist under CEO Marissa Mayer.

The company just banked a windfall from selling off its stake in Chinese shopping giant Alibaba, though questions remain about whether Mayer's biz will be able to stay in the black with this mobile business model. ®
