Hungry Twitter starts spaffing ads ALL OVER THE WEB

Microrant cesspit foresees ‘monetisation opportunities’

Twitter is jumping into bed with news-reading app Flipboard and Yahoo! Japan in a bid to boost its advertising reach.

The company said the deal to display promoted tweets on the third-party sites will "open a significant opportunity" to extend the reach of its "message" to a larger audience.

Ameet Ranadive, Twitter's senior product director, said in a blog: "This is the first of many opportunities to create such campaigns, one that provides great content and monetisation opportunities for our syndication partners, [and] provides high RoI [return on investment] for marketers."

The move will be seen as an attempt by Twitter to boost its audience reach, with its user growth rate having steadily slowed over the last year.

According to its last quarter results, the gobbing off platform has 284 million active average monthly users, an increase of 23 per cent compared with the same quarter in 2013. However, this is down six percentage points from its growth rate in February 2014.

Twitter has said it has 185 billion unique views of tweets outside its website.

The announcement comes ahead of its annual results tomorrow, with revenue for the year 2014/15 forecast at $1.365bn-$1.375bn (£895m-£900m).

However, in its last quarter results, the company recorded a net loss of $175m (£114m) compared with the same quarter in 2014. ®
