Secretive Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi gets TALKY over HUGE sales

Not so tight-lipped on thunderous growth spurt

Chinese tech giant Xiaomi racked up 74.3bn yuan ($11.97bn) in pre-tax revenue last year, the company's president Bin Lin said today.

The vendor apparently had a mega 135 per cent growth spurt in 2014, after it sold more than 61 million smartphones during the 12-month period.

Xiaomi's co-founder didn't offer any details on profit. We learned in December that the secretive Chinese smartphone colossus was operating on the thinnest of margins to keep its handset prices low.

He claimed that the privately-owned firm was now the top smartphone maker in China.

The impressive numbers comes after Xiaomi confirmed late last month that it had raised $1.1bn as part of its major expansion plans.

"Xiaomi has come a long way since we started from scratch in April 2010. Innovating through our products and our business model, we have created a miracle," Bin Lin boasted on his Facebook page.

The five-year-old company, which rivals Apple and Samsung, plans to enter more overseas markets this year, after it claimed to have sold more than 1 million smartphones in India in the space of just five months in 2014. ®
