Gamma's not a goner! UK ISP sorts out major outage

Says BT is the root of the problem

British ISP Gamma Partners is blaming BT for a 13-hour break in its data and communications services but says the problem has now been fixed.

The company has a figure of eight-shaped fiber network running the length of the British Isles that hooks into BT's provisioning. Gamma uses this to sell data and voice services directly and through resellers, and from around 2:30pm GMT they've been deprived of packets.

A Reg reader reported that at least 90 sites took a dive early on, and said Gamma had over 40 engineers working on the issue alongside BT staff. Around a quarter of those affected were back online within a few hours but it took half a day before the company said its connection was back up and running.

The company blamed its connection with BT for the problems, but hasn't issued more details as yet as to the precise cause of the network failure. ®
