Online tat bazaar eBay coughs to YET ANOTHER outage

Web-based flea market struck dumb by size and scale of fail

Updated Online marketplace eBay went titsup for an unknown number of customers in the UK this morning, but the company has been very slow to respond to complaints.

When quizzed about the outage by The Register, eBay 'fessed up to yet more wobbles with its tat bazaar.

“We are investigating reports that certain eBay features are intermittently unavailable or slow and we apologise for any inconvenience caused," a spokesman told us.

However, it had remained silent all morning, much to the frustration of eBayers.

Just after noon today eBay finally coughed to a flaw in its system but remained light on the technical blunder blighting its service.

British ISPs Virgin Media and TalkTalk were among the outfits flagging up the outage to their own subscribers this morning.

Reports on Twitter suggest that eBay has been down for more than four hours for some folk, whose businesses heavily rely on the system not to be hit by outages.

Down Detector claimed that this was the tenth time this year that eBay had gone titsup.

We asked eBay if it was trying to improve its service in light of such an embarrassing stat but it declined to furnish us with a response.

But it did tell the Reg:

eBay is aware that some users are experiencing problems accessing eBay in Europe. We are doing all we can to investigate this issue including reviewing third party internet service provider access issues and we are working hard to put things right. We cannot speculate on the cause of this issue whilst we are still investigating, but we will provide a further update as soon as possible.

Some users also complained that eBay's ecommerce biz PayPal had also been struck dumb by the outage. ®

Update

eBay told El Reg that its system is now back up and running again.

Some users experienced problems accessing eBay in Europe from 08.55am BST until approximately 12.40pm. Our technical experts immediately investigated potential causes including third party internet service provider access issues. All eBay sites are working normally and we are sorry for the inconvenience.
