McDonalds tells fatties to SUPERSIZE THEIR BRAINS

Fancy an ebook with your Big Mac?

Fast food chains used to be criticised for packing their grub full of e-numbers, but now McDonalds has resorted to packaging its nosh alongside e-books in a bid to shrug off its unhealthy reputation.

Fatties who frequent the burger-flipping American outlets will be given the chance to get a book from British publisher Dorling Kindersley (DK)'s Amazing World Series, beginning with a tome entitled The World’s Greatest Cities.

All calorie-lovers need to do is use an app called McPlay to download an eBook or access the website HappyMeal.com from November 1 onwards.

Kids will also be offered the chance to learn about a new McRole model by reading The Goat Who Ate Everything, which is also available on McPlay. This inspirational tale of a goat who is never scared to say "supersize me" will also be given away in print to anyone who buys a Happy Meal, along with three other titles. Some 20 million copies of the four books will be made available.

“We’re excited to invite families to spend time together and celebrate the joy of reading through these fun and original Happy Meal Books,” said Ubong Ituen, vice president of marketing for McDonald’s USA. “This is the latest step in our ongoing efforts to enrich the lives of families, and part of a broader book strategy that will combine the fun of the Happy Meal, new partners and technology to inspire more family reading time.”

The other limited edition books set to be given away in print form with Happy Meals include Deana's Big Dreams, which details how the world's smallest dinosaur grew big and strong by eating the right food. The other titles are Ant, Can't, about a healthy-eating bodybuilder, and Doddi The Dodo Goes to Orlando which, you guessed it, is about a dodo who "eats right" and travels the world. Methinks the fast food chain doth protest too much.

Book charity Reading Is Fundamental are delighted with the give away.

“Books are essential for inspiring children to explore, dream, and achieve, yet far too many children do not have this basic resource,” said Reading is Fundamental CEO Carol Hampton Rasco. “To change this unfortunate reality, RIF is uniting with McDonald’s, a company that embraces the transformative power of books and is committed to helping families and communities thrive. Together, McDonald’s and RIF can truly help enrich kids’ lives through access to books and by putting the fun back into reading.” ®
