Got a BlackBerry? It may be telling your friends when you watch pr0n

Show what I'm listening to: 'I have come to clean your pool'

Using a Blackberry Z10 for a little one-handed surfing might be more public than desired, as the social-sharing baked into the OS likes to share, um, everything.

Blackberry OS10, used on the Z10 handset, integrates social sharing deep into the OS and many users opt in to alerting Blackberry Messenger contacts about their musical preferences.

As the system is also linked to the video player, BBM contacts are getting notified about porn preferences too, which might prove more embarrassing than the latest single from One Direction.

"... is listening to 'pornhub.com'" goes one example update posted to the Crackberry forum, while "...is listening to 'tube8.com'" runs another.

It's not the browser which is broadcasting these social media updates, but the media player which is triggered when one watches a full-screen video from such sites (... so we've heard).

Switching off the smut-sharing is easy. Go into the BBM app and a simple downward swipe opens the settings, of which the first is "Show what I'm listening to". It's off by default, but worth double checking if one wishes to keep one's preferred source of porno - not to mention the extensive Cilla Black collection - a private matter.

Sharing one's musical listening was all the rage back in the early days of social media, but rapidly declined as the constant stream of updates become more annoying than valuable.

These days Twitter has inured us to vomiting streams of pointless prattle, so perhaps the time has come to start sharing our listening habits again. Though hopefully, pornographic preferences will always remain a private affair. ®
