Rovio: Actually there will be Angry Birds Space on Windows Phone

'What? No, nobody called from Redmond or Nokia'

Rovio has apparently changed its mind, with the company's CEO telling Reuters that a Windows Phone 7 port of Angry Birds in Space is in the offing, though he's not saying when.

That contradicts what the company's chief marketing officer told Bloomberg earlier, but CEO outranks head of marketing so we're betting that Angry Birds In Space will get a Windows Phone port, but can't help wondering if Nokia or Microsoft haven't been on the phone to Rovio recently.

"We are working closely together with Nokia to bring our games to their platforms," said the CEO to Reuters.

"Our mutual goal is to bring the best possible experience to our fans, including all fans using Windows Phone devices."

Anyone hoping for a Symbian port probably shouldn’t hold their breath, but it's worth remembering that Rovio and Nokia do have history - the Mighty Eagle (an in-app purchase) was launched on Ovi well ahead of any other platform.

Not that in-app purchasing has gone terribly well, and the Mighty Dragon (from Angry Birds Year Of The Dragon) offers the same experience; only without having to pay for it.

It's also worth remembering that Angry Birds Year Of The Dragon isn't available on Windows Phone, as it is part of Angry Birds Seasons which never made the leap onto Microsoft's platform. Neither is Angry Birds Rio (a film tie-in) and even the basic Angry Birds lacks all the later levels when played on a Windows Phone.

Rovio's words might now appear to enthusiastically support Microsoft's platform, but its actions still speak otherwise. ®
