Samsung Galaxy Note and Nexus rooted

Gain more control of your Android kit

Samsung's 5.3in smartphone-cum-tablet, the Galaxy Note, has been rooted. So has its Android 4.0-based Galaxy Nexus handset.

Of course, the Galaxy Nexus isn't out yet, but that hasn't stopped one enterprising early adopter with pre-release hardware from posting a utility, Superboot, that'll root the smartphone with "no need to flash any partitions, no need to mess around with ADB, no messing with the contents of your data partition, no overwriting the shipped ROM on your device".

The hack comes in Windows, Linux and Mac forms. There's a write-up and details over at MoDaCo.

Meanwhile, XDA Developers has the download and script for rooting the Note and installing the ClockworkMod recovery tool. AndroidNZ has a walkthrough.

As ever, proceed only at your own risk. Or not at all if you don't own a Galaxy Nexus yet. ®
