Brightcove launches apps in the cloud

One app, many platforms

Cloud based video distribution provider Brightcove is moving into the app market for mobile, web, social media and connected TV.

Brightcove globally announced the App Cloud platform for developers, combining an open HTML5-based model with cloud services for cross-platform app creation.

The App Cloud product is currently in private beta for approved customers and partners and is expected to become commercially available in the second half of 2011.

It features automated app distribution, analytics, advertising, and connectors for content management systems and other cloud services.

“With the Asian smartphone market predicted to double by 2016, this announcement is good news for our customers across the region, allowing developers to create one app and deliver it across a multitude of platforms,” said Dennis Rose, VP for Asia Pacific, Brightcove.

The US company entered the Australian market late last year with 40 local customer wins across the media, online and e-tailing sectors.

Last year Brightcove said that it would consider going public sometime in 2011, with analysts suggesting that the new product launches are the lead up to an imminent IPO. ®
