Skype dials up deal with Facebook

Plugs self into über Web2.0 wasteland

Skype has inked a deal with Facebook by integrating the dominant social network’s News Feed and Phonebook into the Microsoft Windows version of its software.

The company added it planned to roll out the tech to Apple Mac users soon, but didn't reveal when that would happen.

“We’ve revitalised the look and feel, making voice and video calling, instant messaging, screen sharing and file sharing intuitive and easy to navigate,” said Skype in a blog post yesterday.

“And you can now bring even more of your family and friends together with the new group video calling feature available in open beta.”

All Things Digital reported in September that a partnership between Facebook and Skype was imminent.

The agreement, financial terms of which were kept secret, will allow Facebook users to see their News Feed in Skype, post status updates that can be synched with the firm’s “mood message”, comment on friends’ updates and wall posts, and call/SMS Facebook users. ®
