Ninja security group forms alliance

A Cloud Security Alliance has popped up and will show itself at an RSA security conference on April 21.

The non-profit CSA says it's formed itself to "promote the use of best practices for providing security assurance within Cloud Computing", and to show users how to use cloud computing "to help secure all other forms of computing."

Confirmed members of the The Cloud Security Alliance include PGP Corporation, Qualys and Zscaler. The alliance hopes to brings together experts within several fields - including governance, law, security, cryptography, virtualisation, risk management - to develop best practice on adopting cloud computing technologies and services.

eBay chief information security officer, Dave Cullinane, is listed as a CSA member. More founding individual members are listed here. The CSA is described as complementary to the Open Cloud Manifesto group in a blog by one of these founding members, Christopher Hoff.

Hoff writes: "The key difference between the two efforts relates to the CSA’s engagement and membership by both providers and consumers of Cloud Services and the organised non-profit structure of the CSA. "

A first CSA white paper, entitled Guidance for Critical Areas of Focus in Cloud Computing, will be issued at the RSA Conference on 21 April. A one year roadmap of activities is due to presented at the Infosecurity conference in London a week later. ®
