Reg server and chip hack molested by Gray Lady

'They'll never take away my typos!'

Lady and gentlemen,

My time at the blessed Register has come to an end. As of this Friday, I'm off to The New York Times to bring the wonders of AIX, the vi editor, transactional memory, RAID 6 and FPGAs to the washed masses. Go figure.

I've hung around with Brits long enough to know that compliments are largely verboten. So, you all suck, which is to say, you've been great - beyond great. Reporters live for their readers, and El Reg has the best readers going.

For the time being, the hilarious and talented Austin Modine will pick up the chip, server and open source charge at this fine organ. Please treat Austin with the respect he deserves.

I have no idea what will happen to the Open Season and Semi-Coherent Computing podcasts, but please keep tuning in.

Should you want to contact me (please do), I'll be doing the allegedly old media thing at avance (at) nytimes.com.

In this age of amorality and decadence, it has been a great pleasure to know such a dysfunctional-cum-outstanding group of people. I've had the time of my life and am surprised one can get paid for such work.

Thanks for your eyes and ears. ®
