Nokia - Qualcomm circus comes to London
Another day, another court
Qualcomm's assertion that Nokia is infringing key patents kicks off before the UK High Court today, with the traditional denials from the defendant and brash arrogance from the plaintiff.
The case was filed in May 2006 and follows similar filings by Qualcomm in a raft of countries, which are all supposed to prevent Nokia selling patent-infringing handsets. None of those cases has reached a verdict, and the High Court is expected to be a few weeks reaching its decision on the matter.
These cases come back to Nokia's refusal to extend its licensing agreement on the Qualcomm patents, and forms only part of the ongoing battle between the two companies as to who has the biggest patent pile. ®
