LG's quad-core Optimus tabphone powers into Europe

Pace and display

The big-screen LG Optimus 4X HD has joined the growing list of quad-core party members, with the company's Nvidia Tegra 3 powerhouse shipping across Europe this week.

As with most of its sexy quad-core rivals, the 4X HD tries to seduce with a saucy screen. Here it's a 4.7in IPS LCD display with a resolution of 1280 x 720, an aspect ratio of 16:9 and a pixel density of 313ppi.

First unveiled at Mobile World Congress 2012, the 8.9mm thick Optimus 4X HD rocks Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich spruced up with the new Optimus UI 3.0, all of which promises to hold out well through the larger-than-usual 2150mAh battery.

The company says this is also thanks to proprietary SiO+ technology, which apparently provides high energy density in juice packs with smaller form-factors.

Other specs include 16GB of built-in storage, a front facing 1.3Mp webcam and a rear-facing 8Mp camera, an MHL port and DLNA compatibility.

The Germans are the first to get their hands on the LG Optimus 4X HD, with the phone available from today, but widespread European release - including a UK rollout - is set to follow shortly.

An exact RRP has yet to be set, but you can expect it to be competitively priced up to rival the Samsung Galaxy S III and other high-end smartphones. ®
