Sony pops top on 13Mp Xperia

Takes smartphones into LTE territory too

Sony unveiled two LTE-supporting Xperia smartphones today, although with the UK still blighted by a lack of 4G, they'll only be big in Japan for the time being.

Which is a shame because the Xperia GX is quite the powerhouse. Its sibling, the Xperia SX, is apparently the world's lightest LTE handset too. Come on, Blighty - the rest of the world is making us look old fashioned.

The Sony Xperia GX packs a 4.6in display and a whopping 13Mp camera with HD video capabilities. This is supported by 16GB of internal Flash storage.

Meanwhile, the Sony Xperia SX boasts a 3.7in display, an 8Mp camera and 8GB of internal storage. The big thing here, though, is the handset's anorexia: it weighs just 95g.

Both models feature 1.5GHz dual-core chippery running an Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich build. The pair benefits from Sony's Mobile Bravia engine, which is used to add "razor-sharp" clarity to the display.

Both Xperias, available in black or white, go on sale in Japan this summer. Exact pricing and availability has yet to be confirmed. ®
