Official: Lenovo adopts Windows Phone

MS OS handsets out in 2012

Lenovo has confirmed rumours that it plans to enter the Windows Phone business, with handsets due in the latter half of next year.

Lenovo's LePhone Product Manager, Yue Chen, broke the news in an interview with iMobile, saying: "We are indeed currently considering a Windows Phone-based LePhone product, and we already have a clear release schedule," before adding, “it will be released during the second half of 2012."

The confirmation follows the leak last month of snaps that showed a Lenovo S2-like device running the latest version of Windows Phone, 7.5 Mango.

While there's no guarantee the handsets will become available beyond the walls of China, the manufacturer's decision to turn to Windows Phone indicates Microsoft's OS is starting to gain ground.

The word earlier this week was that Microsoft plans to launch its own range of Windows Phones in China sometime in early 2012, WinRumours reports. These would roll out alongside a Chinese Marketplace, which devs are already submitting applications for. ®
