Huawei Enterprise UK helmsman Poskett sails off to Dell

Industry vet poached for enterprise solutions biz

Texan tech baron Dell has poached the boss of Huawei Enterprise UK, Dave Poskett, as deputy head of one of its Blighty-based divisions.

Poskett was the last of the three senior European execs that Huawei's UK subsidiary lured across to run operations in the region when it set up shop three years ago.

Simon Culmer and Dominique Vanhamme quit back in 2012, when both complained they had no autonomy to make major decisions.

In a statement sent to The Channel, a Dell spokeswoman said:

“We can confirm that Dave Poskett will join the Dell team as UK enterprise solutions director, reporting into Peter Barnes, executive director for enterprise solutions in the UK.”

She added that Poskett’s remit will include working “directly” with Dell’s government customers to sell infrastructure kit, software and services.

Poskett, who prior to Huawei spent a couple of decades in senior roles at HP – including running their channel – is due to start next month.

El Chan has no way of ascertaining the growth Huawei UK has achieved since it launched in 2011, as the business does not break out country specific numbers.

Yet the company confirmed to us in September that the Brit and mainland European tech sectors were “potential major markets” because “currently volumes are not so big”.

Partner recruitment has been slow and rivals including Cisco have taken a strong hand with some of their nearest and dearest to deter them from signing distribution agreement with the Chinese organisation.

Continued paranoia about espionage - repeatedly denied by Huawei - probably hasn’t helped either.

Huawei told us it is drafting a response, and we'll update this story when it arrives. ®
